The transfer portal quarterback market has been arguably the biggest story in football over the last several years. Oklahoma's seen their fair share of quarterbacks come and go and another former quarterback is on the move again.
Former five-star signee Jackson Arnold is leaving Auburn for the UNLV Rebels. There, he'll be coached by Dan Mullen, who is one of the more respected offensive minds in college football for his work with quarterbacks over the years.
Arnold's collegiate career hasn't gone as many anticipated. Like much of Oklahoma's offense in 2024, Arnold struggled to put together anything that resembled his appearances as a true freshman in 2023. He was benched for Michael Hawkins Jr. after three first-half turnovers against Tennessee in Oklahoma's SEC opener but was reinserted into the linuep after Hawkins had three turnovers of his own on OU's first three possessions against South Carolina.
But it was an up and down finish to the 2024 season for Arnold. He did help Oklahoma beat Alabama with more than 100 yards rushing against the Crimson Tide to propel the Sooners to bowl eligibility. However, a turnover at the end of the Missouri game allowed the Tigers to complete the comeback win over the Sooners in Columbia.
In 2025 with the Auburn Tigers, Arnold opened the season with a solid nonconference win over Baylor, where he again showed off his rushing prowess. But that was the high point for the former Sooner with the Tigers.
In his career, Arnold's completed 63% of his passes for 3,209 yards, 22 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and has rushed for 871 yards and 12 touchdowns. With UNLV, he'll get an opportunity to reset his career in the Mountain West Conference where the level of competition should help him regain the confidence and ability that made him one of the best quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting class.
