Jayden Gibson left the Oklahoma football team in October. Now, just more than a week into December, he’s officially headed elsewhere.

Gibson, a junior, entered the transfer portal Monday. He hadn’t played for the Sooners since 2023 as injuries, including a patellar tendon injury last year and a subsequent setback in recovery from that injury, stifled things for the Florida native.

In that 2023 season, GIbson looked like a future regular member of the wide receivers’ rotation. He caught 14 passes for 375 yards with five touchdowns. Such production combined with his status as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2022 suggest a soft landing out of the portal.

Oklahoma’s passing game finished near the middle of FBS in 2025 with quarterback John Mateer and wide receiver Isaiah Sategna leading the resurgence. Sategna was especially good after transferring over from Arkansas. He led OU with 65 catches for 948 yards and seven touchdowns. The reception and yardage totals were each good for second in the Southeastern Conference and the touchdowns ranked him in a tie for fourth.

Gibson initially committed to Florida out of high school and chose the Sooners over the Gators, Florida State and Auburn among others.

Oklahoma is set to play in the College Football Playoff on Friday, Dec. 19 against Alabama.
