The Oklahoma Sooners are gearing up for what promises to be a busy second week of the transfer portal, after a successful first week of portal madness. On Sunday, they saw a former player find his new portal home.

Former Oklahoma wide receiver Javonnie Gibson has committed to play for the Cincinnati Bearcats out of the transfer portal, he announced on Sunday. Gibson spent just one year in Norman, after transferring in from Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the 2025 season. Cincinnati will be his fourth school, after his career began at Arkansas-Monticello.

Gibson was one of the stars of spring football for the Sooners, but he suffered a serious injury near the end of spring practice that sidelined him until OU’s fifth game of the 2025 season. When he returned to the lineup, he was used in more of an auxiliary role in OU’s passing game, but still served as a starter for the Sooners.

Gibson totaled 18 catches for 199 yards and a touchdown in 2025. The Opelousas, Louisiana, native was projected to be a big part of the OU passing game in 2026, but now will head to the Big 12 and try to help the Bearcats reach the conference title game. At 6-foot-2 and 211 pounds, Gibson has the chance to be an excellent player for Cincinnati, and he’s fully recovered from his injury, having played in the final nine games of the year for Oklahoma.

The Sooners have a long list of wide receivers who have transferred out of the program for 2026, but they’ve added three players back into the mix in the transfer portal. Virginia’s Trell Harris and Texas’ Parker Livingston should be starters in Norman next season, while Washington State’s Mackenzie Alleyne should make up for some of the lost depth.
