It’s been a busy week of arrivals and departures for the Oklahoma Sooners in the transfer portal, but with one week of the portal madness left, OU saw a former player find a new team for 2026.
Former Oklahoma tight end Carson Kent has committed to play for the Pittsburgh Panthers of out the transfer portal. Kent played just one season at OU, after playing at Kennesaw State for three years. After playing in all 13 games for the Sooners in 2025, he’ll get to Pitt with one more year of eligibility left.
Kent was a redshirt junior at OU this past season, and was mainly used as a blocking tight end when he was on the field with the Sooner offense. As Oklahoma struggled to find a reliable blocking presence at tight end alongside the receiving prowess of Jaren Kanak, they cycled through Kent, Will Huggins and Kaden Helms, none of whom offered the desired result.

Kent was a part of the 2025 rebuild of the tight end room in Norman, which has now turned into the 2026 rebuild of the tight end room in Norman. Former tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley has been fired, and Oklahoma hired Jason Witten as the program’s new tight ends coach. Kent and Helms (who transferred to Minnesota) entered the transfer portal, while Kanak and Huggins are out of eligibility.
However, the Sooners brought in Florida transfer Hayden Hansen and Colorado State transfer Rocky Beers to hopefully anchor the position in 2026. They also signed two true freshmen tight ends in Ryder Mix and Tyler Ruxer, and they return Kade McIntyre, John Locke Jr., and Trynae Washington from last year’s squad.
