The college football season ended Monday, Jan. 19, as the Indiana Hoosiers took down the Miami Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

With the 2025-26 campaign over, a number of stars from across the country will turn their focus toward the 2026 NFL Draft.

One of those players is former Spearman standout Brenen Thompson, who will be competing with the American Team at the Panini Senior Bowl on Jan. 31.

According to the event’s website, the Senior Bowl is, “the premier college football all-star game and the official first step in the NFL Draft process. For more than 76 years, Mobile, Alabama has proudly hosted this historic event, making it the longest continually running all-star game in football.”

NFL current and former stars like Josh Allen, Richard Sherman, Von Miller, Dak Prescott, Philip Rivers and others have forged their paths to the pros in Mobile, and now, Thompson will have an opportunity to do the same.

Throughout a week of practice at the event, players work with NFL coaching staffs and are able to show off their skillset in front of talent evaluators from across the league. Thompson earned and accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl after hauling in 57 passes for 1,054 yards and 6 touchdowns as a senior at Mississippi State.

The former Lynx star also added another score on the ground in his lone year with the Bulldogs.

At Spearman, Thompson was a four-star recruit who was rated the No. 135 overall player and No. 22 wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class by 247Sports. Thompson spent his freshman year at Texas, before playing the next two seasons at Oklahoma and finishing his career in Starkville.

Thompson helped Spearman reach the Region I-3A Division II semifinals as a junior in 2020 and ended his high school career with 2,280 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns on the ground, 1,182 passing yards and 15 scores through the air, 1,196 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, as well as more than 1,500 return yards and five touchdowns.

On the track, Thompson won a Class 3A state title in the 200-meter dash while at Spearman, and finished second in the 100-meter dash. That same electric speed has helped the Hansford County product earn a trip to the Senior Bowl and potentially a spot in the 2026 NFL Draft.
