A late change has Fort Collins High School football star Mason Bandhauer now expected to head to Penn State to play college football.

Bandhauer is one of the top recruits in Colorado in the Class of 2026 and he signed with Iowa State when the early signing period opened in December.

His father was an Iowa State quarterback and Bandhauer originally committed to Iowa State in October of 2024.

But then Iowa State coach Matt Campbell was a late mover in the coaching cycle, taking over at Penn State. He took that job at the end of the early signing period.

Now Bandhauer appears set to follow. Multiple national recruiting sites (including On3 Sports and 247Sports) reported Dec. 23 that Bandhauer was committing to Penn State. Fort Collins football's social media accounts reposted those announcements as well.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound offensive lineman is rated as a three-star recruit and No. 10 overall in the state, per 247Sports.

He's been a three-year standout on the Fort Collins offensive line.

In his recently completely senior season, Bandhauer paved the way at left tackle for Colorado's leading rusher in Jack McKeon, who ran for 2,197 yards at 7.3 yards a carry.

The Lambkins averaged 38.6 points per game, went 9-3 and won a Class 5A playoff game, tying for the program's best season in the last 11 years.

Bandhauer was named first-team All-State in 2025 by CHSAA.
