OXFORD — Ole Miss football’s coaching staff for the College Football Playoff is falling into place, and it’s looking pretty similar to what it was in the regular season.
No. 6 Ole Miss will face No. 11 Tulane (11-2) in Oxford on Dec. 20 (2:30 p.m. CT, TNT) at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The Rebels (11-1) will be without former head coach Lane Kiffin, who departed for LSU on Nov. 30. Former defensive coordinator Pete Golding was promoted to take his place.
But some assistant coaches who plan to join Kiffin at LSU in 2026 will remain in Oxford to help Ole Miss prepare for its first College Football Playoff game in program history, according to a Dec. 8 report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Tight ends coach Joe Cox, wide receivers coach George McDonald, assistant quarterbacks coach Dane Stevens and slot wide receivers coach Sawyer Jordan returned to Oxford on Dec. 8, according to the report.

Kiffin hired Cox, McDonald and Jordan at LSU, as well as conditioning coach Nick Savage and senior executive director of player personnel Mike Williams, according to a report from The Advocate on Dec. 1.
Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. also has been confirmed as staying at Ole Miss through the postseason. Weis is expected to be LSU’s offensive coordinator, but Golding did not rule out Weis staying at Ole Miss beyond the conclusion of the 2025 season.
