The 2026 Oklahoma football season is full of hope for Sooners fans. And for good reason.

No, there may not be the sheer fervor of this time last year when Ben Arbuckle and John Mateer joined the team from Washington State as offensive coordinator and quarterback. Jadyn Ott was in from California-Berkeley as a projected bell-cow in the backfield, too. But those additions didn't quite live up to the hype.

Not to say they were bad additions. Far from it. Ott never became healthy enough to significantly contribute. Arbuckle's offense ranked 92nd in FBS. And Mateer went from Heisman Trophy favorite in the early weeks of the season to not making the list of the Top 100 players released this week from On3.

Plenty of other Sooners players did, though.

Defensive lineman David Stone, linebacker Kip Lewis, EDGE rusher Taylor Wein and wide receiver Isaiah Sategna not only cracked the Top 100, but the top 63. Four players among the best 63 in the country? Oklahoma has the top end talent to have another 2025 season in 2026, perhaps even better.

Stone ranked at the top of the list among Sooners players and was the only one with a write-up as author Clark Brooks opined on the Top 25.

"His nine tackles for a loss were the most at the position. And his 9.7 percent Impact Rate was the 12th-best among Power 4 interior linemen," Brooks wrote. "Moreover, Stone is just one of two returning college football players to rock a plus-81.0 PFF run defense grade."

Stone will anchor a defense that did live up to its hype last year. The Sooners ranked sixth in total defense, seventh in scoring defense and third in rushing defense with Stone and his fellow defensive tackles plugging up the middle. Stone also rated as the No. 4 defender in the SEC, behind only South Carolina's Dylan Stewart, Texas' Colin Simmons and Auburn's Xavier Atkins.

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith topped the list, followed by quarterback Dante Moore (Oregon), Stewart, wide receiver Malachi Toney (Miami) and Simmons.
