Auburn football added a safety from DeMatha Catholic High School in Maryland to its 2027 recruiting class on Wednesday, and has a chance to reel in another player from the school on Friday.

James Pace, a 2027 EDGE rusher and teammate of recent Auburn commit Knyair Crumb, will announce his commitment on Friday. Auburn is in a tight battle with South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Maryland for the four-star EDGE ahead of his scheduled announcement.

What are the chances of Auburn landing another blue-chip defensive piece? As was the case with Crumb on Wednesday, early forecasts show Auburn will emerge victorious in the race for Pace on Friday.

As of Thursday afternoon, Auburn holds a 93% chance to land Pace’s pledge with two expert predictions from Rivals’ recruiting experts Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons. Auburn also holds a single prediction from 247Sports, as National Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn submitted one favoring Auburn on May 31.

Auburn would complete its goal of landing two of Maryland’s top three EDGE rushers with a commitment from Pace. Auburn landed a commitment from Annapolis EDGE Rion Jackson, the No. 7 player from Maryland and the third-highest-rated EDGE from the state, on June 10, and could boost its defensive haul with a commitment from Pace, the No. 4 player from Maryland and the No. 2 EDGE from the state according to 247Sports.

Ahead of Pace’s announcement, Auburn ranks No. 12 in Rivals’ 2027 recruiting rankings and No. 14 in 247Sports’ rankings with 19 commits. Out of Auburn’s 19 pledges, 11 of them are blue-chip caliber. Running back Myson Johnson-Cook leads the way in Auburn’s blue-chip representation, and Pace could be a stellar addition to the Tigers’ 2027 class.
