Alabama football has landed a running back in the 2027 recruiting class.
Rivals four-star recruit Nigel Newkirk from Gainesville, Georgia, announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide and coach Kalen DeBoer on Sunday. Newkirk chose Alabama over a group of finalists that included Ohio State and LSU.
Hayes Fawcett of Rivals was the first to report the news.
Listed as 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, Newkirk is the seventh overall commitment in the Crimson Tide's 2027 class, and the first running back commitment.
He joins five-star quarterback Elijah Haven (Baton Rouge), four-star quarterback Trent Seaborn (Thompson High School, Alabaster), four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon (Brentwood, Tennessee), and a trio of three-stars recruits: defensive linemen Avrian Pauley (Mobile) and Stevan Thornton III (Cairo, Georgia), and tight end Oakley Keegan (Liverpool, New York) in Alabama's 2027 class.
Alabama had been seen as the favorite to land Newkirk, who took an official visit over the weekend. Rivals ranks the Peach State tailback as the No. 89 overall prospect in its industry rankings.
247Sports lists Newkirk as a three-star recruit and the No. 22 running back in the 2027 class.
