The four-star cornerback, a hometown prospect from Waco, Texas, stunned the recruiting landscape by abandoning a nearly year-long commitment to stay home, choosing instead to head nearly 1,200 miles north to Ann Arbor.

Vincent, hailing from Connally High School in Waco, is one of the most intriguing defensive back prospects in the 2026 cycle. A consensus four-star recruit, he is nationally ranked as a top-20 cornerback and a Top247 overall prospect.  

His scouting report consistently highlights two unteachable traits: elite size and explosive athleticism. Standing around 6-foot-2 and possessing exceptional length, Vincent has the prototypical frame for a modern boundary corner capable of matching up with larger college receivers. Though he may need to add mass to his current 165-pound frame, his lean, sinewy build is ripe for development in a collegiate strength program.  

Vincent is also a three-phase athlete for his high school team, seeing extensive time at both defensive back and quarterback. This offensive experience is invaluable, as it gives him an advanced understanding of route concepts and quarterback intentions—a trait that often leads to faster development and better ball skills at the next level. His tested athleticism and top-end speed further cement his projection as an immediate-impact player with long-term professional potential.  

The Wolverine’s Late Push

Vincent had been a staunch Baylor commitment since January, a logical decision given his proximity to the campus and the Bears' consistent presence in his recruitment. However, the Michigan staff, led by defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan, never backed off. Morgan, a native of Copperas Cove, Texas, utilized his deep connections in the Lone Star State to keep the conversation open.  

The momentum shifted dramatically in the fall. After receiving an offer in late September, Vincent took his first official visit to Ann Arbor in October. He came away impressed by the program's environment and developmental structure, noting that Michigan offered different avenues to becoming a better person "on and off the field." The true turning point, however, came with a return visit over the weekend for a pivotal game against a rival. This final push sealed the deal, resulting in the official flip announcement on Sunday, just days before the Early Signing Period.  

Vincent’s flip marks the second time in this cycle that Coach Morgan has successfully pulled a high-profile Texas defensive back away from a Baylor commitment, following the earlier flip of four-star safety Jordan Deck. This ability to win head-to-head battles in a state typically dominated by the Big 12 and SEC is a testament to Michigan's national recruiting prowess and the strength of their coaching relationships.  

Immediate Need Met

For the Wolverines, the addition of Vincent is crucial. The program had been searching for another elite cornerback in the class to complement fellow four-star Andre Clarke. Vincent’s size and athleticism provide a significant boost to a secondary that is constantly tasked with shutting down elite Big Ten offenses. His long-term development is promising, and he is seen as a player who could turn into a valuable starter by his second year. The flip also provided a much-needed morale boost to the Michigan faithful following a disappointing regular-season loss.
