From Westgate to the Super Bowl, Kayshon Boutte makes history

Westgate High School is feeling extra excited heading into the weekend and Super Bowl LX, as the Tigers have some skin in the game on the biggest stage in professional football.

One of its own, Kayshon Boutte — now a wide receiver for the New England Patriots — will etch his name into school history as the first Westgate alum to play in a Super Bowl. Knowing one of their own has a shot at a Super Bowl ring made National Signing Day on Feb. 4 even sweeter for the Tigers, reinforcing the idea that the sky is the limit for their student-athletes’ talents.

“It’s just gratifying. I mean, Kayshon was in this room before, too, signing with LSU back in 2020,” Westgate football head coach and athletic director Ryan Antoine said. “He did a great job, worked his butt off, and it’s just good for our kids here because when you dream, you actually have reality to it.

“Sometimes you can just say some things and throw it out there, but we actually have guys who are going through it and can make those dreams turn into reality.”

The school has had its “Good Luck Kayshon Boutte” sign displayed at the front of campus since the Patriots punched their ticket to the 60th Super Bowl on Jan. 25 with a 10-7 victory over the Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game. The 5-foot-11, 197-pound receiver has played a key role in the Patriots’ championship run, recording 551 receiving yards and six touchdowns this season. Boutte is averaging nearly 17 yards per catch as a go-to weapon for quarterback Drake Maye and the New England offense.

That kind of production doesn’t surprise anyone in New Iberia, where Boutte put on a show every Friday night as Westgate’s top offensive weapon. During his senior season, he totaled 1,005 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on 46 catches while also rushing for nearly 900 yards and 12 touchdowns on 71 carries. Boutte is what Antoine and his staff believe is just the tip of the talented iceberg in New Iberia.

Westgate High School posts a sign wishing former student Kayshon Boutte good luck in the upcoming Super Bowl LX.

Since taking over the Westgate football program, Antoine has seen a handful of players move on to play Division I football, including Boutte. Another notable Tiger alum is Jaboree Antoine, a true freshman safety for the Miami Hurricanes. Antoine competed on one of college football’s biggest stages earlier this year in the 2026 College Football Championship against Indiana on Jan. 19.

Both former Tigers embody the W.A.M.P. mentality, which stands for “We Ain’t Most People,” “We All Make Plays” and “We All Make Progress.”

“It just tells you that you don’t have to be the norm. You don’t have to be the same as everybody else,” Antoine said. “You can go out there and write your own story and walk in your own lane. We’re not going to do what traditional programs do. We’re not going to be just like everybody else.”
