2027 three-star defensive lineman Waylon Wooten is weighing his options between 10 schools right now. He's focused on Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, NC State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, and Florida State.
That's quite an impressive list of suitors he's narrowed his nearly 40 offers down to. However, FSU has him thinking about the recruiting process in a completely different way after he took an unofficial visit to Tallahassee last week.
"It was just one of them experiences," Wooten said per Noles247. "It was a great place. Great family. One thing I can say I took out of this experience is like they are family-oriented and wanting to do things the right way. Like getting a closer relationship with God. I feel like that's a place you want to be. I feel like the words I heard from the coaches today and the staff, it really changed my mindset of how I look at this recruitment process."
Defensive line coach Terrance Knighton, who works specifically with interior defensive linemen, is who Wooten focused on during the Seminoles' spring practice. Needless to say, he was impressed with what he saw.
"It was crazy how he get after his boys and how he motivates them to go off and keep going day-by-day," said Wooten.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder was a productive player in 2025 for Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. He racked up 32 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three sacks, 11 quarterback hurries, and one pass breakup.
Wooten is the No. 872 overall recruit and the nation's No. 98 defensive lineman according to the 247Sports composite rankings. In the state of Georgia, Wooten in the No. 98 prospect.
He visited Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Georgia so far in March in addition to Florida State. He'll be at Virginia Tech this weekend before visiting Ohio State next weekend. NC State and Purdue will host him in April, and Kentucky will get a visit soon as well.
As you can see, Wooten is a busy young man at the moment as he sorts his top schools out. He's locked in official visits with Georgia and Florida in June. The plan is for him to schedule up to six official visits. Hopefully, FSU did enough to be one of them.
