New FSU edge coach Nick Williams has brought some much-needed juice to FSU's recruiting efforts at a premium position, and the Seminoles are in the mix for several elite edge rushers. However, it appears that they have some ground to make up in the recruitment of Frederick Ards III, a four-star prospect from Orlando, Florida.
On Tuesday, Rivals' Florida insider Blake Alderman submitted a prediction for Ards to commit to the Florida Gators. He is the third expert to project him to Florida, giving them a 94.9% chance to land him, according to the Rivlas recruiting prediction machine.
Ards has taken numerous trips to Florida over the past two years, and new head coach Jon Sumrall has only built on the momentum the previous staff established. He has a top five of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, and Texas A&M, with all five set to receive official visits.
The Seminoles are set to host him on June 19 for his official visit and will need to make a move to try to jump Florida in his recruitment. He has visited FSU multiple times this year, with his most recent one coming on March 28.
Ards is ranked as the No. 79 overall player and No. 10 edge in the Rivlas industry ranking. He is also the No. 8 player from Florida. He is coming off a strong junior season at Jones High School, finishing with 80 tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, 11.0 sacks, and one forced fumble.
