Brandon Harris is expected to be the next defensive backs coach at Florida State football, first reported by 247Sports.

Harris, the younger brother of current FSU wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr., spent the 2020 season as an analyst on Mike Norvell’s inaugural staff before taking a cornerbacks coach role at FIU. Harris comes back to Tallahassee after spending a year at UCF under Scott Frost.

Harris spent three seasons at FAU and was elevated to co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach in 2024, a year before his departure to UCF. He was named to the 2026 AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute class ― a prestigious program designed to identify and develop premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession

The hire comes less than a week after the Seminoles fired Patrick Surtain as the program’s defensive backs coach. Harris is the second staffer to join the program after FSU hired Nick Williams from Syracuse to coach the edge position.

A former Miami standout defensive back, Harris was drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He spent six seasons in the NFL, playing with the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins. He briefly played in the Canadian Football League following his NFL career.
