Florida State football has officially announced the hire of Kam Martin as the program’s next running backs coach.
The announcement comes nearly a month after Martin was targeted to be the next coach following David Johnson’s departure to Arkansas. Alongside Martin, wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. has been elevated to co-offensive coordinator of the program.
Martin, labeled as a “dynamic recruiter” by FSU head coach Mike Norvell, comes to the program after a year with Tulsa, where he was an associate head coach and the running backs coach. The 28-year-old started his coaching career in 2022 at Incarnate Word, and quickly earned a spot on current FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn’s staff at UCF in 2023 as the program’s running backs coach.
“Kam Martin is a great fit for our staff, and I’m thrilled to have him as part of our program,” Norvell said in a press release. “He has proven production as a running backs coach, developing some of the nation’s best rushing attacks the last few years at multiple institutions. He is a dynamic recruiter, skilled evaluator and an elite developer on and off the field. I’m excited for the growth of our running backs under his leadership.”

Despite a recent entry into the coaching world, Martin has a track record of success that stacks up. He helped coach RJ Harvey, the UCF standout running back and current Denver Bronco rookie, to consecutive seasons of over 1,400 rushing yards. At Tulsa, Martin oversaw Dominic Richardson, who rushed for 1,065 yards this season.
FSU has not had a 1,000-yard rusher since Cam Akers in 2019.
FSU will hope Martin has the same instant success that Harris had, which led to his promotion to co-offensive coordinator.
Under Harris, FSU has a 1,000-yard receiver in Duce Robinson, who will return to the program for one more season, and Micahi Danzy had a breakout year at receiver after switching positions from running back.
“Tim made an immediate impact on our wide receivers last season, helping push our offense to a different level,” Norvell said in a press release. “His ability to teach and develop was showcased in the many playmakers we had among our wide receivers group, and I’m excited to see them continue to grow under his leadership. In this expanded role, our entire offense will benefit from his knowledge and teaching ability as we build on this year’s growth as an offense.”
“I’m excited for this opportunity to continue to grow as a coach and help build on the positive steps we took as an offense last season,” Harris said in a press release. “I appreciate the trust Coach Norvell has shown in me, and I’m looking forward to the continued development within our wide receivers group and the offense as we push to reach FSU’s high standard for success.”
