FSU football reportedly set up visit with transfer QB Anthony Colandrea

Florida State football is set to host UNLV transfer quarterback Anthony Colandrea on a visit Sunday, Jan. 4, according to a report from ESPN.

The Seminoles are in need of a quarterback and have been active in the transfer portal, trying to identify their next signal caller. Old Dominion transfer Colton Joseph was an early favorite, but Colandrea is now a top target for the program.

Colandrea is from St. Petersburg and played at Lakewood High School in his prep career before enrolling at Virginia. He spent two seasons with the Cavs and threw for 4,083 yards, 26 touchdowns and 20 interceptions, while rushing for 502 yards and two touchdowns before transferring to UNLV.

He had a breakout season in Las Vegas under head coach Dan Mullen, throwing for 23 touchdowns with 3,459 yards and nine interceptions. He added a career best 649 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, solidifying him as a dual threat option.

The experience in Mullen’s system would help Colandrea as FSU offensive coordinator, Gus Malzahn runs a similar style.

FSU reportedly in contact with former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway

A surprise link with FSU and former Gator quarterback DJ Lagway was first reported by On3. There have been discussions held between the two parties for the former 5-star and number one overall quarterback in the class of 2024.

Lagway entered the transfer portal after two inconsistent seasons with Florida. He threw for 4,179 yards and 28 touchdowns, but struggled with not turning the ball over, tossing 23 interceptions.

There is currently no visit set up, and the interest level from either side is still fresh, but it’s something to monitor for the Seminoles, who are looking for a new quarterback.
