Game Thread: Michigan Football vs. Texas in the Citrus Bowl

After a chaotic month, the Michigan Wolverines arrive at Camping World Stadium looking to finish the year on a high note against one of college football’s marquee brands.

Michigan and Texas both enter this game at 9-3, setting up a rare non-CFP matchup between two traditional powers. The Wolverines have quietly built a strong bowl résumé in recent seasons by winning three straight. A win today would give Michigan its second four-game bowl winning streak in program history.

Texas, meanwhile, opened the season as a national title favorite and spent much of the year in the playoff conversation before settling into the Citrus Bowl. Despite matching Michigan’s record, the Longhorns arrive in Orlando ranked inside the top-15 and favored to close the season with a statement win.

Today’s Question: Can Michigan’s next wave step up amid heavy absences and make this bowl game competitive?

As is often the case in the modern bowl landscape, Michigan’s roster will look far different than it did during the regular season. Several key contributors are unavailable due to draft preparation or injuries, leaving interim head coach Biff Poggi to lean heavily on younger players and depth pieces.

Poggi has emphasized embracing the opportunity rather than dwelling on who isn’t available.

“If you can’t get excited about playing Texas, then you might be in the wrong sport,” he said this week.

That mindset will be tested against a Texas team that still features plenty of high-end talent and enters the game with far more continuity. The Longhorns boast one of the more physical rosters Michigan has faced all season and will look to use that edge to control the line of scrimmage and wear it down.

For Michigan, today’s formula is simple but challenging: play clean football, limit turnovers and keep the game within reach long enough to let effort and execution carry the weight. The Citrus Bowl may not carry playoff stakes, but it offers something just as important for a program in transition — momentum, development and pride.

One final game. One final chance to close the season the right way.
