Quick slant:Ole Miss is the sixth Top 10 opponent Florida has faced in 2025. Dating to 2021 in Dan Mullen’s final season, the Gators have lost 18 straight against Top 10 opponents, including 15 since former coach Billy Napier arrived. Since then, UF was an underdog by more than 14 points three other times, entering losses to Georgia in 2022 (15.5), at LSU in 2023 (16.5) and at Texas in 2024 (21.5). The Gators otherwise had been underdogs by 15 points or more three times dating to 2013.
About UF (3-6, 2-4 SEC):The Gators allowed Kentucky more points than any opponent since last season’s 49-17 loss at Texas with third-string quarterback Aidan Warner. Sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway has at least two interceptions in five games at UF, including three times in 2025. He has thrown at least two touchdowns six times.
About Ole Miss (9-1, 5-1):The last time the Rebels beat Florida was 31-30 in 2008 in the Swamp that inspired quarterback Tim Tebow’s famous “promise” speech, followed by a national title run. Ole Miss lost to UF in 2015, 2020 and 2024. Since 2023, the Rebels are 20-1 at home, but have won home SEC games this season by an average of just nine points against teams with a combined 10-17 record (Arkansas, LSU, South Carolina).
Three things to watch
1. Pressure and contain Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss. The Rebels’ quarterback beats teams with his arm (2,356, 13 touchdowns) and legs (434 yards, six scores) while operating behind an offensive line that has allowed just 11 sacks, tied for second fewest in the SEC.
2. Ole Miss run defense. UF must play keep away and keep Chambliss and Co. off the field. The Rebels are 13th in SEC run defense (143.60 yards per game). Unleashing tailback Jadan Baugh and maintaining possession might be the Gators best chance to keep it close.
3. Explosive pass plays. Ole Miss leads the nation with 30 pass plays of at least 30 yards, while UF has just eight, tied for 117th of 136 teams.
