No. 10 Miami at No. 7 Texas A&M

When: Saturday, 12 p.m. Eastern Time, 11 a.m. local time

Where: Kyle Field, College Station, Texas

TV: ABC

Coaches: Mario Cristobal 32-18 at UM, (94-78 overall); Mike Elko 19-6 at Texas A&M (35-15 overall)

Line: Texas A&M is favored by 3.5 points

Weather: 67 degrees, 0 percent chance of rain.

Quick slant: Both the Hurricanes and Aggies will play in their first College Football Playoff game on Saturday. Although Texas A&M is favored, UM has been a trendy upset pick.

About No. 10 Miami (10-2): The Hurricanes ended the season on a roll, blowing out four straight opponents. UM ended the season with a dominant 38-7 victory at Pitt, which helped get Miami into the playoff.

About No. 7 Texas A&M (11-1): The Aggies sputtered in the final weeks of the regular season. In their last two games against SEC teams, they needed a 28-point, second-half comeback to beat 4-8 South Carolina and then fell on the road at rival Texas.

Three things to watch

1. Miami’s offensive line will have its hands full with Texas A&M’s elite pass rush. Defensive end Cashius Howell is an All-American, and he led the Aggies to the national lead in sacks (tied with SEC rival Oklahoma). The Hurricanes’ offensive line has excelled in protecting quarterback Carson Beck all season, allowing just 11 sacks. Something has to give in the trench battle, and that could decide the game.

2. UM star freshman Malachi Toney has garnered numerous honors the last several weeks, and he deserves them. The American Heritage alum has already set the Miami record for most receiving yards for a freshman. He is 30 yards short of the 1,000-yard mark and would become the seventh UM receiver to reach that milestone. Toney is also two catches shy of the Miami record for most receptions in a season, which Xavier Restrepo set in 2023.

3. Texas A&M offensive tackle Trey Zuhn III said soon after the matchup was announced that he did not think UM defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. would “be a threat that we need to worry about too much.” Bain, who has been one of the nation’s top defensive players this year, heard the comments. He responded with a smile and said, “God bless those guys. They’re just playing football the way they play it.” Not that Bain needed extra motivation, but the matchup between him and Zuhn should be an entertaining part of the game.
