The game time is set for the season opener on Sept. 5 as the Texas Longhorns will host the Texas State Bobcats at 2:30 p.m. Central on ESPN, the SEC announced on Wednesday.
The conference also revealed that head coach Steve Sarkisian’s program will close the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 7 p.m. Central kickoff against UTSA at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sept. 19. SEC Network+ will carry that game.
The season opener pits fourth-year Bobcats head coach GJ Kinne against the program where he started his college career as a quarterback before going on to have a standout career for the Golden Hurricane under Gus Malzahn. It’s also just the second meeting between Texas and Texas State — the two programs previously met in 1930, a 36-0 win for the Longhorns against what was then known as Southwest Texas State Teachers College.
UTSA and Texas have played twice previously, a 41-20 win for the Horns in 2022 and a 56-7 victory in 2024 when Arch Manning replaced injured starter Quinn Ewers and threw for four touchdowns on 12 pass attempts in addition to ripping off a 67-yard touchdown run.
