A bittersweet moment is about to happen in the Borderland.
New Mexico State (3-7, 1-5 Conference USA) and UTEP (2-8, 1-5) will meet on Saturday, Nov. 22, in El Paso, TX. It will be the 102nd edition of the Battle of I-10, and the last for the foreseeable future due to the Miners’ impending move to the Mountain West Conference next year. UTEP confirmed in July that the game will not take place in 2026, and games beyond that season haven’t been agreed upon yet.
Both teams will look to snap losing streaks on Saturday. The Aggies’ streak is four games long after losing 42-9 to Tennessee last week, while the Miners had theirs extended to three after a 38-24 defeat against Missouri State in the same week.
Scotty Walden is in his second season as UTEP’s coach and is 5-17 during his tenure. NM State coach Tony Sanchez is 3-3 against the Miners as a player, assistant coach and head coach.
