Georgia football has a claim that it is RBU.

Another example came on Wednesday, Jan. 14, when former Bulldogs running back Garrison Hearst was among 18 players named to the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Class.

Hearst becomes the 17th former Georgia player elected to the hall.

Hearst played for Georgia from 1990-92 and owns the single-season rushing touchdown mark with 19 in 1992 as a junior when he had 1,547 rushing yards.

That’s fourth best on the Bulldogs’ single season list. The first three spots belong to former Heisman winner Herschel Walker.

Hearst finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1992. He also won the Doak Walker Award for nation’s top running back that season in a year when Georgia beat Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl and finished 10-2.

Hearst was a consensus All-American who is fifth on the Georgia career rushing list with 3,232 yard behind Walker, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Todd Gurley. Hearst is sixth in all-purpose yards (3,834), fourth in 100-yard rushing games (16), and sixth in total touchdowns (35).

“Georgia, in a lot of areas, is considered Running Back U,” Hearst told the Athens Banner-Herald in 2014. “When I came here a lot of great backs had been here. You had Herschel, you had Tim Worley, Lars Tate, Rodney Hampton. A lot of times in your mind you have to do your thing to get out there because you have to represent.”

Hearst will be included into the Hall of Fame on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.

The Lincolnton native was the No. 3 overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft by the Cardinals and played 10 seasons in the league, including five with the 49ers, where he was twice a Pro Bowl selection.

Hears lives now in Alpharetta and is a uniform inspector for NFL Operations and is active in youth sports.
