Tennessee quarterback George MacIntyre has one game remaining in his freshman season.

No. 23 Tennessee (8-4, 4-4 SEC) will conclude its 2025 football campaign in the Liberty Mutual Music City Bowl on Dec. 30. The Vols will face Illinois (8-4, 5-4 Big Ten) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Kickoff between the Vols and Fighting Illini is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST (ESPN).

Ahead of the Tennessee-Illinois game, fifth-year head coach Josh Heupel discussed MacIntyre’s growth during his freshman season with the Vols.

“Just continued growth and understanding it, as simple as receiving a signal and being able to communicate,” Heupel said. “His command of what we’re doing, decision making. He’s had a good bowl preparation here, as well, so I look forward as we continue to get closer to game day and continue to take steps.”

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound quarterback appeared in two games during the 2025 regular season. He completed 7-of-9 passing attempts for 69 yards against East Tennessee State and New Mexico State.

MacIntyre enrolled at Tennessee in January and participated in spring practices.
