Georgia Agrees to Contract Extensions with Both Coordinators

The Georgia Bulldogs are headed into the regular season with something that elite coaching staffs rarely get to say from one year into another: they have continuity.

Since the departure of Dan Lanning to Oregon several years back, there has of course been some turnover on the staff as a whole, but offensive and defensive coordinator have remained the same for several years now in the combination of Mike Bobo and Glenn Schumann.

While the opinion of fans on the coordinators will always be split, don't count on a change in Athens anytime soon. According to a report from Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, both Bobo and Schumann have received contract extensions and raises to keep them with the program for the years ahead.

Georgia Locks Up Both Bobo, Schumann

In January, Bobo signed a deal which extended his contract from ending after the 2027 season to now through the 2028 season and increases his pay in each of the next two years. According to Weiszer, Bobo's total pay is going to climb to $2.3 million on Feb. 1, 2027 and $2.4 million on Feb. 1, 2028.

Schumann received a very similar deal and while he is set to receive $2.2 million this year, that will rise by $100k each of the next two years to have him at $2.4 million for the 2028 season before the contract ends on Jan. 31, 2029.

It's the second straight year Schumann has signed an extension and the second time in three years that Bobo has signed one as well, and this deal comes off his most successful campaign yet.

Bulldogs Have One of Nation's Elite Coordinator Combinations

Between Schumann running the defense and Bobo running the offense, it is one of the best coordinator combinations in all of college football and one to where Georgia fans are extremely fortunate to have two elite coaches like this operating each unit.

Bobo gets flak from the fanbase at times, but he guided an offense with a first-year starting quarterback and multiple starting freshman offensive linemen to a year in which they averaged 32.1 points per game and more than 180 rushing yards as a team.

Ultimately, as little staffing turnover year to year as possible is the best thing for any program, and now Georgia knows the two most important spots on Kirby Smart's staff are secure, at least for the time being. Schumann and Bobo are here to stay for the moment, and that is a tremendous thing for this program.
