Head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs fell short of a national championship by losing to the Ole Miss Rebels 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl. The Bulldogs finished the season 12-2 and won the SEC title.
While the season didn’t end on a high note, the offseason provides an opportunity for improvement. Smart and his staff are working toward building up the 2027 recruiting class and have their eyes on interior offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
Standing at 6-foot-5.5 and weighing 305 pounds, he is a five-star recruit, the No. 1 IOL and the No. 11 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings. Hailing from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, he’s emerged as one of the cycle’s most sought-after recruits.
Back in July, Hiller announced his top eight schools, one of which was Georgia. The Bulldogs had been making a strong impression, hosting the pass protector for an unofficial visit.
However, on Saturday, Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett reported that Hiller narrowed his list to four schools. Georgia was left out, with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes making the cut.
While an official commitment decision has not been made, signs are pointing toward the Bulldogs falling out of the race. To make matters worse, Hiller could end up within the SEC playing against Georgia.
While not landing his commitment would sting, Smart has already put together a strong 2027 recruiting class, ranking second in the nation. The offensive line already has one addition in the form of four-star tackle Kelsey Adams.
