Georgia congressman says ‘NEAUX’ to former NFL players joining college teams in response to LSU

A Georgia congressman is tackling a current conflict in the college sports world.
Georgia U.S. Rep. Clay Fuller introduced legislation on Sept. 3 that would prevent college athletics teams from recruiting former pro-athletes.
Fuller’s legislation is called the “No Elite Athletes Using X-pro status to ensure Prioritizing Recruitment Of Student-athletes” or “NEAUX PROS” Act.

The legislation was filed in response to LSU’s efforts to bring on former NFL players to their football team.
The SEC said leaders will meet Thursday to discuss whether to kick LSU out of the conference
Less than a week ago, a judge ruled against members of the SEC, which had sued LSU and head football coach Lane Kiffin, allowing college and university teams to recruit from former NFL players.

In a statement on the ruling, an attorney for the NFL said the situation was not about just LSU, but “about treating these kids fairly,” Tony Clayton, an attorney for the athletes, said.
“Today, justice was served. And justice was serve to the SEC. It was served like a cold cup of gumbo. And that judge forced him to eat it,” he said.
LSU had been in the process of recruiting Former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Zxavian Harris and former Cleveland Browns tight end Dae’Quan Wright, causing controversy in the college football and pro-football worlds.
The SEC’s vote would require 11 members of the SEC to vote in favor of kicking LSU out of the league.
A copy of LSU’s roster for the season released Wednesday evening shows 105 players on the board, but neither Harris nor Wright are on the list.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to the SEC for comment on whether the vote is still scheduled for Thursday.
