Georgia DB trying to return for fifth college football season

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Jacorey Thomas is planning to return to college football. Thomas is seeking a fifth-year of eligibility after a recent court ruling.

Thomas, a member of the high school recruiting class of 2022, was among the players impacted by the ruling. The ruling provides athletes that were members of the class of 2022, who have exhausted their college eligibility, a preliminary injunction to play a fifth season.

It is unclear if Thomas would be able to return to Georgia or if he would have to enter the transfer portal. There is not another transfer portal window for football until after the regular season. However, the court ruling could change that for players like Thomas. The former four-star recruit would have to try to find a team with an open roster spot.

Thomas went undrafted in the 2026 NFL draft. He was invited to the Carolina Panthers' rookie minicamp, but has not signed with an NFL team. An extra year of college football would provide Thomas with an opportunity to further refine his skills and a chance to earn more money via name, image and likeness.

In 2025, Thomas totaled 45 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a nine-yard sack against Alabama in the 2025 SEC championship. He appeared in all 14 games for Georgia including eight starts.
