Georgia football is new No. 1 in coaches poll. Here's how many 1st place votes it got

Kirby Smart and Georgia football are the new No. 1 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll after a 20-17 win at Alabama on Saturday.

The Bulldogs moved up a spot after Texas was upset 27-24 in Dallas in the Red River rivalry game.

Georgia was last No. 1 in the coaches poll on Sept. 22, 2024 before losing 41-34 at Alabama.

The Bulldogs are followed in the top five by Notre Dame, Miami, Indiana and Ohio State. Alabama remained at No. 7 in the ranking.

Georgia received 60 first-place votes. Indiana got 9, Notre Dame 3, and Miami and Ohio State one each.

The Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0 SEC) return home to play rival Auburn (3-2, 1-2) at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday Oct. 17.

Georgia got 249 passing yards and a touchdown and one rushing touchdown from quarterback Gunner Stockton Saturday to move to 4-0 in the SEC. Dwight Phillips rushed for a career-high 120 yards on 17 carries.

It was Georgia's first win at Alabama since 2007.

"We haven't played here much, you know?" Smart said. "I mean, 2007, I was here on the other side. So I don't get into all the whole first win in a long time here. I mean, I don't know how many we've played here since then, three? I don't know. Yeah, I mean, so we're 1-2. What is everybody else? I mean, it's a hard place to play."
