The Georgia Bulldogs are losing another defender to the NCAA transfer portal following Georgia‘s 39-34 Sugar Bowl loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. Georgia redshirt freshman linebacker Kris Jones, a former four-star recruit, announced his plans to transfer via social media.
“I appreciate the time I spent in Athens and the connections I’ve made along the way,” Jones said. “I want to thank Coach Smart for believing in me, Coach Schumann for the knowledge you’ve imparted, and Coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe for accepting me into the OLB room. To my teammates, thank you for the brotherhood and the laughs — it’s been a great ride over the last two seasons. With that being said, I am putting my name into the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.”
Jones redshirted during the 2024 college football season before seeing game action in all 14 contests during the 2025 season. Jones did not play a ton of snaps, but he contributed on defense and special teams. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker was a team player and changed positions from inside linebacker to outside linebacker to help the team.
In 2025, Jones recorded seven tackles and helped Georgia win an SEC championship. Jones is from Stafford, Virginia.
