With the Georgia football team looking to live up to their national title hopes this season, this former player and analyst would praise the program and explain why the Bulldogs are an overlooked team. As the Georgia football team looks to be the No. 1 team in the SEC once again, Pat McAfee believes it is bound to happen.
Speaking on ESPN’s College GameDay, McAfee was asked how he assesses the SEC this season, saying that the Bulldogs are in line to claim the top spot once again. McAfee credits the retention of each side of the ball and another year under the belt for starting quarterback Gunner Stockton.
“I think the odds-on favorite…it’s obviously Georgia,” McAfee said. “They’ve been doing it three times in a row. Nobody’s really talking about Georgia and the SEC. They’re the back-to-back SEC champions right now. Gunner Stockton has another year of becoming a starter. They rushed for 180 yards a game last year. Okay, they will come into your house and pound you in the face. Their offensive line still back. 80 percent of their offensive starters are back. 70-some percent of their defensive starters are back.”

Pat McAfee continues on the Georgia football program
The Georgia football team has won back-to-back SEC championship games, three out of the last four, and has been in every title game since 2021. McAfee would continue talking about the Bulldogs, saying that the program winning back-to-back conference titles has been “eerily quiet” and that he is a “huge fan” of what head coach Kirby Smart is “cooking over there.”
“Kirby Smart’s been quiet. He’s also developed over there in Athens. I love this Georgia team,” McAfee continued. “I like them for the rest of the year as we go, but the Georgia Bulldogs eerily quiet as back-to-back SEC champs this off-season, and I’m a huge fan of what Kirby’s cooking over there.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen if the Georgia football team will win their third straight SEC championship, as the 2026 season starts on Saturday afternoon against Tennessee State.
