The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to three-star class of 2027 recruit Robert "Tre" Geathers III. The elite linebacker recruit may be a familiar name for many Georgia football fans.
Geathers' father, Robert Geathers II, played at Georgia from 2001-2003 before entering the 2004 NFL draft. Geathers II played during the Mark Richt era and won an SEC championship in 2002. He spent over a decade as a defensive end with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2004-2014. Geathers II posted 326 tackles, 34.0 sacks and forced six fumbles in his NFL career. He started over 100 NFL games and appeared in over 150 games.
Georgia and coach Kirby Smart certainly have a recruiting advantage when it comes to Geathers III. However, Geathers III will look to blaze his own path. Several notable Georgia football legacy recruits, including Thomas Davis' son, have ending up committing to other schools. The Bulldogs will have to play their cards well to land Geathers III.
Geathers plays high school football for Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He recently won a state championship with the private school in the fall of 2025. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker is ranked as the No. 537 recruit in the country and the No. 17 prospect in North Carolina. Geathers is a versatile athlete that could play linebacker or safety at the next level. With the evolution of football requiring players to be faster and cover more space, we'd expect Geathers to project as a linebacker in college.
One indication of where Georgia is recruiting Geathers comes from a photo of his recent visit. The three-star posted photos with coach Kirby Smart and inside linebackers coach/defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann. He visited Georgia on April 5.
"Extremely excited to receive an offer from the University of Georgia!" Geathers said after earning his Georgia offer.
South Carolina, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee and Nebraska are among the other top college football programs pursuing the elite class of 2027 defender. Geathers has an official visit set with South Carolina.
During his junior season, Geathers posted 72 tackles, three interceptions, nine pass break ups and one touchdown. He won a state championship with Providence Day as a junior.
