Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Ryan Puglisi shared with the media that he plans to return for another season at UGA. Puglisi, along with the rest of Georgia’s roster, has the option of entering the transfer portal, which opens on Jan. 2.
The redshirt freshman quarterback has served as starting quarterback Gunner Stockton’s backup during the 2025 college football season. Stockton could return for another year in Athens, but Puglisi isn’t going anywhere in 2026.
“I am not transferring,” Puglisi said to the media ahead of Georgia’s Sugar Bowl game against the Ole Miss Rebels. Puglisi did share that his parents and high school coach frequently get contacting seeing if he is looking to transfer.
“They get it all the time,” he continued. “That’s part of the game now. They’re the same way. They love Georgia just like I do.”
Puglisi and Stockton could return for next season along with freshmen Ryan Montgomery and Hezekiah Millender. Puglisi has the most experience of all of Georgia’s backups.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound passer has completed 16 of 27 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions this season. He has five carries for 13 yards and has appeared in seven games including four contests against SEC opponents in 2025.
Georgia and coach Kirby Smart did not sign any quarterbacks in the class of 2026, so the Bulldogs need to retain most or all of their quarterback room for next season. If Georgia loses one quarterback to the transfer portal, then Georgia could look to add a transfer QB. Additionally, if Gunner Stockton leaves, then Georgia would have a major need at quarterback.
