Georgia football reportedly paying $1.5 million to play MAC opponent

The Georgia Bulldogs are reportedly scheduled to play the Akron Zips in 2029. Georgia will pay a reported $1.5 million to host the MAC foe in Sanford Stadium.

Akron scheduled Georgia along with four other future Power Four opponents, who are all scheduled to Akron $1 million or more. Akron is looking to become a more consistent MAC contender.

Georgia has never played Akron in school history. The Zips have made just three bowl appearances in school history and have not played in a bowl game since 2017, which ended up as one of the biggest losses in bowl game history. Georgia contrarily has made a bowl every year since 1996 and is one of the best programs in college football. The Dawgs have reached a new level under head coach Kirby Smart.

Georgia's 2029 season schedule now features nonconference games against the Clemson Tigers, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Akron. The Bulldogs are slated to play nine SEC opponents in 2029 and for the rest of the foreseeable future.
