The second edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released on Nov. 11 and the Georgia Bulldogs maintained their No. 5 spot in the rankings. Around Georgia there was some movement, but the selection committee’s top five remained the same.
In Week 11, Georgia beat Mississippi State 41-21. Georgia is looking to solidify their playoff hopes this week against No. 10 Texas, who is a fringe playoff team at the moment.
Week 11 did feature one top-10 team lose. The previous No. 7 BYU Cougars lost to the previous No. 8 Texas Tech Red Raiders, who moved up to No. 6 spot in the rankings. Texas Tech moved past Ole Miss, who fell to the No. 7 spot.
That shake up combined with the previous highest rated Group of Five team, Memphis, losing to Tulane changed who Georgia’s matchup would be. The Bulldogs would play the No. 24 ranked South Florida Bulls in the first round of the playoff. Georgia, the projected No. 5 seed, would host South Florida, who would make the playoff as the highest ranked Group of Five champion.
If Georgia beat South Florida, then the Bulldogs would have a rematch with the No. 4 seed Alabama Crimson Tide in the quarterfinals and possibly face No. 1 Ohio State in the semifinals.
