With the Georgia football program coming off a win over Arkansas in Week 3, 45-17, the team would carry that momentum into last Saturday’s contest against the Oklahoma Sooners, blowing them out, 41-13. As Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart gave respect to the Sooners before the game, he was honest about their performance during the game.
If there is one word to describe the Bulldogs on Saturday, it was “opportunistic,” as Smart said, according to The Next Round, as the Sooners committed four turnovers, losing three fumbles in addition to John Mateer throwing an interception. Smart would even express that Oklahoma beat themselves.
“There’s forced fumbles, and then there’s gifts,” Smart said. “We like to have the saying ‘Dawgs don’t beat the Dawgs’. The Dawgs didn’t beat the Dawgs today. But the Sooners, in a lot of ways, beat the Sooners. They gifted us multiple turnovers that could have been touchdowns, and the game would have been different. So opportunistic, a little luck, but proud of Chris for running it back and KJ’s interception.”

Kirby Smart on where the Georgia football team didn’t play to standards
Despite the big win for the Georgia football team over the Sooners, the Bulldogs’ offense in the second half saw a downturn after leading 28-0 at halftime. While still scoring 13 points in the half, Smart emphasized how the team didn’t play to the “standard” that they set themselves to.
“I think it’s always indicative of your halftime adjustments, what you’re going to do in the second half, what kind of energy you have. Are you complacent? Do you look at the scoreboard? I mean, if you’re going to be that way, it’s probably an alarm bell for upcoming games,” Smart said, via Dawg Nation.
“Because if you’re going to be, you know, happy with where you are, then you’re not going to improve. And I didn’t think that we, you know, played to a standard in the second half,” Smart continued.
The Bulldogs and Smart are now 4-0 on the season and look to keep the undefeated record into Week 5, where the program takes on the Vanderbilt Commodores.
