The Georgia Bulldogs are running out of time to make splashes in the class of 2027 after what has largely been a tough spring of losing out on commitments to hated rivals.
Just a couple of weeks after losing out on a major target to the Clemson Tigers in elite defensive lineman Seth Tillman, Georgia is going to battle with Clemson again for another Seth in Atlanta area four-star safety Seth Williams. After pushing back his commitment date earlier this month, fans have a new day on which they can expect Williams to make a decision between the Tigers and Bulldogs.
According to a story from 247, Williams is going to announce his decision on July 31 in a recruitment that is as much of a toss up as has been seen in this program in some time.
Williams to Announce Between Georgia, Clemson on July 31
Benjamin Wolk of 247 writes that this is a recruitment which has changed by the day, and that one day the Tigers will have the momentum and the next it's the Bulldogs who have pulled their nose ahead.
The Lakeside standout certainly has a ton of folks around him who love the Georgia program and are likely trying to steer him in that direction, but to his credit, nobody has been better than Dabo Swinney at pulling some of the elite players from the Deep South up to his program once he gets them on campus.
After losing a battle to Swinney for Tillman earlier this cycle, this one feels a bit more personal for Kirby Smart and this coaching staff. Not only would Williams present a huge win though, he would add some real depth to a class that is sitting just outside the top-10 in the country.
A commitment over the weekend from Adryan Cole makes the need at defensive back a little bit less urgent, but being able to add Williams as well to the class would give them some serious depth and the chance to keep climbing the rankings late in the cycle.
At the end of the day, fending off Clemson is going to be tough as it always is, but Georgia has to like where it stands here in the final days of the Williams commitment. It's as close to 50/50 as you can get right now, but Smart and the staff are going to keep up the full court press over the next week and a half.
