Week 6 delivered college football’s most exciting Saturday of the season so far, and it was certainly a memorable day for Georgia football. The Bulldogs maintained their unbeaten record on Saturday with a 20-17 win over Alabama. With the win, Georgia finally brought an end to its long wait for a regular-season win over the Crimson Tide.

The victory marked Georgia’s first regular-season win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa since 2007. Nearly two decades later, Kirby Smart’s squad produced another memorable performance on the Crimson Tide’s home turf. It also marked Smart’s first regular season win over Alabama.

The defeat handed Alabama its first loss of the season. Both teams entered the highly anticipated matchup with 5-0 records and 3-0 marks in SEC play, but Georgia ultimately emerged victorious in a hard-fought showdown.

Georgia’s victory marked its third win over Alabama in their last 11 encounters. Though the Bulldogs had beaten the Crimson Tide in championship matchups, including the 2025 SEC Championship Game, securing a regular-season victory in Tuscaloosa had remained a challenge.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton played a pivotal role in the Bulldogs’ win. He completed 18 of his 22 passing attempts for 249 yards, recording one touchdown and one interception.

Meanwhile, Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell endured a tougher outing as the Crimson Tide struggled to establish offensive consistency against Georgia’s defense. Russell finished the game completing 16 of 30 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown.

The victory gives Smart’s squad a significant boost as the Bulldogs continue their push for SEC and national championship contention. Defeating Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama team could also strengthen Georgia’s case to claim the No. 1 spot in Sunday’s AP Top 25 rankings.
