Georgia Tech quarterback Aaron Philo announced on Wednesday, December 17, that he's entering the transfer portal, a first step in what could end with him becoming the new Florida football quarterback in 2026.

Philo spent the first two seasons of his career developing under Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, who was hired as the offensive coordinator of the Florida Gators on December 11.

A redshirt freshman with three years of eligibility remaining, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Philo has shown promise as a backup quarterback in two seasons with the Yellow Jackets, throwing for 938 yards with 2 TDs to 3 interceptions over two seasons while rushing for 95 yards and 1 TD. Philo has appeared in seven games over two seasons and while alternating with Haynes King helped lead Georgia Tech to a 28-23 upset win over Miami on Nov. 9, 2024.

Philo was a three-star recruit out of Prince Andrew Christian School in Bogart, Ga., where he broke Trevor Lawrence's high school record for passing yards in the state of Georgia with 13,922 yards during his prep career.

The move to Florida would make sense based on Philo's familiarity with Faulkner's spread, air raid offense, which requires a mobile quarterback. If Philo transfers to Florida, he will join a Florida quarterback room that includes redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr., redshirt junior Aidan Warner and incoming true freshman Will Griffin.

Under NCAA rules, Florida can't officially make contract with Philo until the FBS transfer portal window opens on Friday, Jan. 2. The portal window is open from Jan. 2-16.
