Aaron Philo intends to enter the transfer portal when it opens January 2, per reporting from On3.
The redshirt freshman Georgia Tech quarterback saw action in eight games with the Jackets, three this season (including his first start) and five as a true freshman. Philo has been Haynes King's backup.
In two seasons, he completed 59 passing attempts for 938 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He also adds 95 yards on the ground and a touchdown with his feet. His longest pass was 78 yards against Gardner-Webb on Sept. 6.
He was the reason for the win over NC State on Nov. 21, 2024, when he engineered a seven play, 75-yard drive to run in the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter to win it 30-29. He also was the one to hand Miami its first loss of the season on Nov. 9, 2024.

Philo graduated from Prince Avenue Christian, where he went 54-4 under Greg Vandagriff to earn four region and three GHSA state titles. In the 2023 state title win over Swainsboro, he solidified himself as the state's leading passer with 13,922 career yards, surpassing Trevor Lawrence, Gunner Stockton and Deshaun Watson after notching three straight seasons at starter with more than 4,500 passing yards apiece.
Philo's decision comes after former Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner left to join incoming head coach Jon Sumrall's staff at Florida. The Jackets went 9-3 this season and are set to play BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 3:30 p.m. in Orlando, Fla.
“I can’t determine whether he’ll be at the bowl game or not," Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key said to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday. "Everybody’s gotta make their own decisions, everybody’s gotta do what’s right for them. We talk very openly about those things.”
