Brent Key took Georgia Tech from a pretender in the ACC to one of four teams racing toward the conference championship game. For his efforts, other programs looking for his craftsmanship have come calling. Except Key seems to be content right where he's at.

On Thursday, he shut down the rumors with a powerful statement about his alma mater.

“Since I came back here, since I was named the head coach here, outside of the time with my family, every waking second of my life, has gone towards building this program, to get to the point that it is right now,” Key said via On3. "It’s just the beginning. Slice me open and see what colors I bleed.”

Key, who played on the offensive line at Georgia Tech in the late 90s, has climbed the ladder in Atlanta. Since being promoted to head coach prior to the 2023 season, the results speak for themselves. Three straight winning seasons, which includes leading to the Yellow Jackets to an 8-1 record thus far in the 2025 season.

All eyes are on Tech in this year's College Football Playoff projections, leading Key to be mentioned in several coaching searches. But his focus isn't about what happens in December. At least, not right now. The Jackets are recovering from their first loss to NC State.

“If you don’t get motivated when you lose, you shouldn’t be playing football,” Key said. “You’re not a competitor. We’ve got a lot of competitors in there, and they’ll respond the right way."

With four SEC head coaching jobs open right now, Key wants no smoke on this year's carousel. We'll see if that changes down the stretch. If college football has taught us anything, there's always something unpredictable coming.
