Georgia transfer defensive tackle commits to SEC rival

Georgia Bulldogs redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jordan Thomas has transferred to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Thomas has three years of eligibility left.

Thomas was a four-star defensive lineman from the class of 2024 when he committed to Georgia. He was the No. 75 prospect in the nation and No. 1 from New Jersey, so he was expected to eventually become another bonafide star the Bulldogs produce on the defensive line.

Unfortunately, it won’t materialize for Georgia. Thomas redshirted his freshman year after appearances against Clemson, Tennessee Tech, and Mass in 2024, notching four tackles and a sack. In the 2025 season, he appeared in just five games, recording two tackles and a pass defended.

Thomas will head to one of Georgia’s biggest rivals in the coming years. The Gamecocks will play the Georgia Bulldogs every year due to the SEC implementing a requirement to play three rivals every year in their new schedule rules. Smart infamously said that the Bulldogs try to schedule the teams their transfers head to. Georgia is scheduled to play at South Carolina on Nov. 21.

Thomas will learn a thing or two about revenge against Georgia from his head coach. Shane Beamer was a former Georgia Bulldogs assistant as well, serving as their tight end and special teams coordinator from 2016-17. Thomas and Jaden Harris are the only two Georgia Bulldogs who have found new destinations from the transfer portal this year.
