It’s time to start preparing for the 2026 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 3 of the Fran Brown Era.
Up next is…
Name: Matthew Outten
Position: Wide Receiver
Year: Redshirt Freshman
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 215 lbs
Hometown: Portsmouth, VA
High School/Previous College: I.C. Norcom/Penn State
2025 stats: Outten didn’t play in any games during his lone season at Penn State.
2026 projections: With Syracuse top seven receivers by receiving yards gone from last year, the opportunities available for pass catchers are bountiful in Central New York. Outten’s natural size, speed and perceived talent should put him in the conversation to be among the starters for Syracuse. Whether he takes that opportunity is up to him.
How’d he get here?: Outten entered the transfer portal on January 8. He committed to Syracuse on January 12.
What’d recruiting sites say?: A three-star transfer. As a recruit, a consensus four-star recruit. Outten was also a consensus top-10 wide receiver in the class.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Fran Brown certainly loves his track athletes (writer’s note: which greatly pleases our editor, Kevin). Outten competed in four races in the state championships: The 55, 100, 4×100 and 4×200 meter races.
Let’s get a look at ya:A peak at Outten during spring practice for Syracuse.
