It’s time to start preparing for the 2026 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 3 of the Fran Brown Era.

Name: Tedarius Hughes

Position: Defensive Back

Year: Freshman

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 180 lbs

Hometown: Miami, FL

High Schools: Miami Northwestern/Rise Prep Academy

2025 stats: Played his senior year of football at Miami Northwestern High School. 

2026 projections: It’s a loaded defensive back room at cornerback and safety. That being said, safety depth is something Fran Brown is always looking for, so Hughes could play his way into some time this season. Nonetheless, the ceiling seems high for him. 

How’d he get here?: Hughes had been committed to Florida State since July of 2024. However, the Orange flipped him in November of 2025. 

What’d recruiting sites say?: A four-star recruit by ESPN, three stars everywhere else. A consensus top-50 safety in the class.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Hughes is one of four Miami Northwestern alums on the roster this season. He joins Nazir Ward, Darius Johnson and Calvin Russell.
