Google Celebrated Curt Cignetti's Historic Championship Win with a Fun Easter Egg

Curt Cignetti arrived at Indiana in late 2023 to take the reins of one of the lowest-ranked Power 5 programs in history. The Hoosiers were coming off a 3-9 season in 2023 and hadn’t won more than eight games since 1967, not to mention they became the first D-1 school to lose 700 games in 2022.

When asked how he planned to recruit to such a program with no prior ties or track record, Cignetti didn’t blink.

“It’s pretty simple. I win. Google me,” the head coach said at his introductory press conference at Indiana.

Now, after Cignetti could literally win no more than he did throughout the 2025 season, the search engine has answered. After Cignetti led Indiana to its first-ever national championship and a perfect 16–0 season, Google quietly added an Easter egg to its search results.

Typing in “Curt Cignetti” in the search bar now triggers a drop-down message above the results that reads: “Yup, he won.”

The nod comes after one of the most dominant runs in modern college football history. Cignetti’s 2025 Hoosiers beat six AP Top 10 teams—including No. 1 Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game—posted three College Football Playoff wins, and became the first program since Yale in 1894 to go 16-0.

The Hoosiers averaged more than 40 points per playoff win and were undefeated across 16 games between the regular season and their postseason run toward the first title in school history.

Fernando Mendoza, the junior quarterback Cignetti developed into a Heisman Trophy winner and likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, helped secure the title with a fourth-quarter touchdown run and was named MVP of the championship game, putting a bow on his collegiate career.

Cignetti, however, acknowledged before the final win of the season that he never expected things to move this fast at Indiana.

“I knew I was out on a limb,” Cignetti said, reflecting on that viral “Google me” moment. “I had a lot of confidence in myself and the staff… but I can’t say I ever thought this far ahead.”

After going 27–2 in his first two years, Cignetti’s results are no longer up for debate, and now Google clearly agrees.
