Gophers-Michigan football showdown gets national TV treatment

The Gophers will host Michigan in Week 5 for their first Big Ten game of the season at Huntington Bank Stadium. The kickoff time has been set for 11 a.m. CT, and it will get the national TV treatment on FOX.

The Big Ten revealed Week 5 kickoff times and networks on Monday. Minnesota-Michigan got the 11 a.m. FOX slot, Ohio State-Iowa will be at 2:30 p.m. on CBS and Washington-USC will be the primetime NBC game at 6:30 p.m. FOX has yet to announce its plans for Big Noon Kickoff in Week 5, therefore the results of Week 4 will likely impact things.

Next week will be Minnesota’s 107th all-time meeting against Michigan. The Gophers trail 78-25-3 in the all-time series, and they will look to win the Little Brown Jug for this first time since 2014, and first time in Minneapolis since 1977.

The Wolverines have gotten off to a roler coaster start under first-year head coach Kyle Wittingham. After a highly-controversial win in Week 1 over Western Michigan, they’ve responded with wins over Oklahoma at UTEP at home. They host No. 17 Iowa in Week 4 before their first road game of the season at Minnesota.

If Michigan takes care of business this week, and the Gophers pull off an upset win at Washington, you could make a case that Big Noon Kickoff could be in Minneapolis. Otherwise, Ohio State at Iowa seems like the most likely destination. Washington at USC is also entirely possible if both teams win in Week 4. Ultimately, there’s still a lot of football left to be played.
