Hayden routs Bagdad for third-straight Arizona 1A high school football title

The Hayden Lobos won their third straight Arizona 1A high school football championship on Saturday, Nov. 15, defeating Bagdad, 66-20 in a game played at Scottsdale Coronado High School.

The game was a rematch of last year's title game. Hayden, located in the southeast Arizona community of Winkleman, entered the game ranked No. 1 and Bagdad No. 2 in 1A, which is the Arizona Interscholastic Association's 8-man football conference.

The Lobos finished the season 12-0 and became the first 1A team to win a third straight title while going undefeated under head coach John Estrada, according to the AIA. The game also marked Hayden's 36th straight win, per the AIA.

Two-way player senior Kino Lorona was named the AIA Offensive MVP and also earned the Fiesta Sports Foundation MVP honor for the game. Lorona eclipsed 2,000 rushing yards on the season during the game, according to the AIA. Senior Tyler Garner was named the game's AIA Defensive MVP.

Garner, who scored on touchdown runs of 42 and 56 yards during Saturday's game, also rushed for more than 1,000 yards on the season, according to the AIA.

Bagdad finished the season 10-1.
