The coaching carousel continues and following the news of Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein accepting the soon-to-be-vacant job at his alma mater, Kansas State University, the Aggies are now searching for his replacement.
It was only a matter of time before Klein secured a head coaching position in the college ranks. Over the past few seasons, he has been regarded as one of the most talented up-and-coming coaches in America. Before moving to A&M, he served as the offensive coordinator at Kansas State, where his offense ranked in the top 25 for two consecutive years.
During his tenure at A&M, he elevated a 50th-ranked offense upon his arrival to the 20th-ranked offense this season. Nevertheless, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. He faced considerable criticism for how stagnant his play-calling could become at times or for straying away from successful strategies. As a result, reactions to the news of his departure after Texas A&M’s football season officially concludes have been mixed.
Still, Marcel Reed’s development and Klein’s ability to recruit have been notable positives. Even with some questionable decisions along the way, the prevailing sentiment is that he improved the Texas A&M offense and departs with well wishes for his next chapter.

K-State was not the only option for Klein
Can confirm the reports by Ned Seaton of @MERCsports, A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein to take over for retiring head coach Chris Klieman.
Klein was actually the pick at USF and was likely to take over Alex Golesh before news of Klieman’s sudden retirement broke.

Klein gets to coach at his Alma Mater, any coach’s dream
I know we’ve had our frustrations with Klein in certain games, but 99% of the time he has been a really elite coordinator. He deserves a head coaching gig at his Alma Mater, and it’ll suck to see him go https://t.co/BvDng5iMBw

It was only a matter of time, and coach Elko will start his search
Happy for Klein. Awesome for him to get to be the head coach at his school. He did a good job at A&M and Elko should look at this as a chance to upgrade

Can Elko go from good to elite at the OC position?
I think Klein was good here, but not un-replacable.
Had felt that he was gone after this year for awhile because of his age, his ambitions for becoming a head coach, his gained national respect this year, and the sheer amount of coaching openings this cycle.
One of his…

Well-wishes as Klein is moving on after the season
It’s official Ags, OC Collin Klein will indeed be going back home to his Alma-mater Kansas State! I just want to say thank you for helping the Aggie offense see the top 25. He also helped lead the team into a 11-1 season and a 1st time CFP birth. Gigem 👍🏾 and good luck!!!

Who would say no?
This sucks for A&M, but when you’re good, people want you. And when it’s your alma mater, how do you say no? https://t.co/bXpHOeSvRL

Klein getting an HC job after four years as a coordinator shows how much schools believe in his talent
Really happy for Klein, this is an awesome opportunity and a perfect fit for both sides.
Lots of folks clowned on the Klein hire but he built a solid, well balanced offense that hung a bunch of points on some really good defenses. Him getting the HC call 2 years later speaks… https://t.co/EHb1SsNcFA

He was an easy target for K-State to consider
The bottom line on hiring Collin Klein: It’s a hire K-State had to make. It might work, it might not. But when a beloved Heisman finalist alum is one of the hottest up-and-coming names in the coaching business after killing it as an SEC OC, you simply have to shoot your shot.

Klein had some questionable moments, but he was an obvious net positive for the program
There is no way people actually believed Collin Klein was a problem. Some head scratcher plays every now and again? Yes, but this offense is at a place it hasn’t been since 2012. Interested to see what Elko does now
