No. 3 Texas A&M loses its first game of the season after a sloppy second half of play, being eliminated from the SEC title game for the second year in a row following a 27-17 loss to the Texas Longhorns on the road.
What a demoralizing way to end the season for the Aggies—after a year in which second-half adjustments were the key to many victories, they completely laid an egg during Rivalry Week. After all the talk of them looking like a different team this year, they could not clear the last regular-season hurdle that will haunt them for another 12 months. So, while they will not end up in Atlanta, they will host a playoff game at Kyle Field.
The Lone Star Showdown trophy will remain in Austin, and the Aggies will have plenty to stew over as they wait to see the new CFP ranking drop to reveal who they will play. It is not all sour grapes, but a loss in this fashion will take time for fans to get over.
Below, you’ll find some of the best reactions from social media:
Brutal loss indeed, time to rest and get healthy
Brutal, brutal night in Austin. Kiss Atlanta goodbye.
11-1 is an awesome season but I freaking HATE losing to these guys.
Learn from it…rest up…and get ready to most likely host a Playoff game at Kyle Field. Got to play A LOT better in order to make some real noise in the…

Tough loss for the team
Hurting for the guys man, but bigger games ahead. Kudos to Texas man, impressive second half. Crazy night

Texas executed, where the Aggies couldn’t
Penalties, undisciplined on assignments. No energy. Not the recipe to win big games. Texas was the better team tonight

The Aggie offense came up short this week
Texas gave up 30-plus points in each of its last four games and was without Anthony Hill tonight. Just a really tough performance for this Aggie offense.

No excuses to be made
Great game by the horns. Not gonna make excuses. They won that straight up. Get ready for a home playoff game. #Gigem

The Lone Star Showdown trophy stays in Austin
Well done, horns. Had our number again. See you next year.

A&M looked like the A&M team that ended the season last year
In our biggest game as a team in I don’t know how long, we were out coached and outplayed in a big way. Crazy
Can’t help but be extremely disappointed by tonight’s result.
We just didn’t look like the team we have looked like all year.
Wild to miss the SEC ship at 11-1.

Rough second half for the coaching staff
Texas A&M was completely out-coached in the second half and let go of any and all momentum they had from the first.
They’ll get much needed help in the form of star running back Le’Veon Moss and top linebacker Scooby Williams returning for the Playoff, but there’s work ahead.

It took 14 weeks, but BAS showed up
Battered Aggie Syndrome waited until the final weekend of the regular season to emerge. Wow.

Progress was made this season. Time to get ready for the playoffs

Whoever Texas plays next will have a motivated team… maybe
Whoever Texas plays in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl is gonna have their hands full.
