The leaves are slowly beginning to change across north Mississippi, a hint of fall is in the air when crisper 58 degree mornings hit our lungs, quarter zips come out of hiding, and the missus begins to coat your entire home with pumpkins, cinnamon and pound skinny PSL’s.

MORE IMPORTANTLY it’s bye week for Ole Miss, so your time taking pictures in a pumpkin patch or going to a fall festival is hurtling at you at the speed of light. You’ve got to have a plan of attack, and so we boiled down the college football schedule for week five to maximize your viewing time, which no doubt needs to coincide with whatever wagers you have made with your sportsbook of choosing.

FRIDAY

  • Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech, 6 p.m. CT ESPN – This is two undefeated teams trying like hell to get into the top 25, and its a night game in Blacksburg, Va. Cue up “Enter Sandman”, watch one of the best entrances in college football and enjoy your Friday night with some ACC action that could solidify one of these teams as the best dark horse candidate from this conference.

SATURDAY

  • No. 7 Alabama vs. No. 16 Miss. St. 11 a.m. CT ABC – Another match of undefeated teams this time in the SEC with huge implications and some possible history to be made. The Bulldogs haven’t beaten the Crimson Tide in nearly two decades, but it has a Heisman contender in quarterback Kamario Taylor and a defense better than last year’s dumpster fire. Mute the TV for the cowbells and enjoy what should be a good game.
  • No. 5 Ohio State at No. 14 Iowa, 2:30 p.m. CT CBS – The Hawkeyes may be set for a let down after a thriller over Michigan, and the Buckeyes need this road win to keep its playoff trajectory intact. This should be a game that resembles old school football with stretches of inactivity, so you’ll want to go split screen with…
  • No. 8 Florida at No. 25 Missouri, 2:30 p.m. CT ABC – Is Florida for real? It looked like it last week while Mizzou stumbled against MSU. This game could be a big blow to the Tigers if it loses in consecutive weeks while the Gators want to give big old school visor energy back to its fanbase.
  • No. 4 Miami at Clemson, 6 p.m. CT ABC – I personally enjoy watching Dabo Swinney’s teams getting the shit kicked out of them, so I’ll be tuning in for this one. If that doesn’t happen and Clemson pulls off the miracle upset, that will also be fun to watch too, but if it gets ugly and boring, you’ll want to switch to…
  • Washington at No. 18 USC, 6:30 p.m. NBC – The buzzards are circling Lincoln Riley’s tenure at USC after a two touchdown loss to Oregon last week. The Huskies similarly are coming off a loss to Minnesota, so this game will have some juice on both sidelines.
  • Cincinnati at Arizona, 10 p.m. CT Fox – Cincinnati is 4-0, and they could be trending toward a Big 12 contender as well. A night game in Arizona could uproot all of their hopes and dreams, so it should be fun to watch and fall asleep to ending your college football Saturday.
